Before china emerged as a big economy, Africa as a continent conducted business with the US and the West. However, as the years passed, we have seen African leaders move most of its business to the East especially China. China as the 2nd largest economy has been providing loans at low interests and grants to most African countries without imposing policies or restrictions as the west have always done when it came to dealing with Africa. Before the US and the European countries gave African government, loans, grants or Aids, they have always imposed policies on us. Dictating what we ought to do if we are to qualify for the loans. For example, the democracy waves of the late 1980s and the early 1990s were brought as a result of pressure from the West. Just the other day we had the US forcing gay rights to be accepted, if they are to give grants to one of the country in sub-Saharan Africa. Africa do not discriminate against gay rights, in fact in some countries. gays and their rights are recognized and I believe the same will continue in other countries. But do we really have to rush the process of gays acceptance in Africa so that we receive Aid from the west, don’t we have the right to decide what is best for us either bad or good, or do we need a Godfather in the name of western counties? When it comes to democracy, do we have to follow the template of what is now being seen in many countries and what I can easily refer to as template of the western democracy? Can’t we have democracy which is African, which is suitable for Africa and which has been made by Africans? We don’t hate democracy, we don’t hate human rights, whether gay or straight but all we say is the fact we need time. America violated or sought of human rights until the early 1960s, we are young democracies just, western civilization is not so embedded in us. Allow us to do what we can for now; otherwise your policies and restrictions which you impose on Africa are the ones to blame for the continent moving to the East
